The Home Depot, headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., was among those recognized today by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a 2015 WaterSense Partner of the Year. The Partner of the Year awards program the commitment of WaterSense partners for creating, rebating, communicating and educating consumers about WaterSense-labeled products, homes and programs. A total of 17 winners and more than 1,700 other WaterSense partners have helped Americans save 1.1 trillion gallons of water and $21.7 billion in water and energy bills since 2006.

The Atlanta Board of Realtors® has received a $2500.00 Placemaking micro-grant from the National Association of Realtors® to help make the Beltline community a better place to live and work by transforming unused public spaces into vibrant community places. The grant is intended to help Realtor Associations partner with others to plan, organize, implement and maintain placemaking activities in their communities

Mayor Kasim Reed and Secretary Julián Castro announced today that the City of Atlanta has been selected to receive $30 million through the 2014-2015 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant. Mayor Reed and Secretary Castro made the announcement at a press event at The Oasis at Scholar’s Landing, a senior residence in the Atlanta University Center neighborhood.

The 26th annual Young Council of REALTORS® Charity Golf Tournament was held September 18th at Chastain Park Golf Course. Over 100 REALTORS® and guests came together to raise $22,000 dollars for the Carter Martin Cancer Research Fund. Over the past ten years the Young Council has raised over $250,000 dollars through the annual tournament, to benefit the fund and children’s cancer research.

The Atlanta Regional Commission’s Green Communities program was named the winner of the Community Strong award at the Metro Atlanta Chamber’s 2015 E3 Awards presentation on Thursday. The E3 awards celebrate metro Atlanta companies, individuals, governments and nonprofits that “are committed to positioning metro Atlanta as a place where the economy and environment connect for everyone.”

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that the city of Atlanta and the Development Authority of DeKalb County will each receive $300,000 to clean up and redevelop contaminated brownfields sites in Georgia

Congressman Doug Collins sent a letter to the President of the Tennessee Valley Authority on the yearly draw down of the water in Lake Blue Ridge, located in Fannin County. Current TVA Operating Guidelines call for the lake to be below full volume for much of the year, including during part of the summer, which drastically shortens the season for boating and other recreational activities. The Atlanta Police Department has made an arrest in the home invasion on August 16, 2015 at 1797 Sumter St. Atlanta Police and the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended 18 year old Brandon Jerome Smith on an arrest warrant for armed robbery and aggravated assault. He was taken into custody without incident around 10:00pm on August 20, 2015.
