WASHINGTON, D.C. – August 24, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The Atlanta Police Department has made an arrest in the home invasion on August 16, 2015 at 1797 Sumter St. Atlanta Police and the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended 18 year old Brandon Jerome Smith on an arrest warrant for armed robbery and aggravated assault. He was taken into custody without incident around 10:00pm on August 20, 2015.

Zone 2 Criminal Investigations along with the assistance of the Homicide Complex Case Squad worked non-stop to make sure this suspect was caught in less than a week. Brandon Smith, who has been identified as the shooter, had a 40 caliber handgun, in his possession when he was caught. Investigators believe it was the same weapon used in the shooting.

Atlanta Police Investigators are still in the process of identifying three other individuals who are believed to be involved in the home invasion. We encourage them to turn themselves into the police.

This arrest was made possible in part to a Crime Stoppers tip off of the sketch that was released on Wednesday, August 19. We received more than a dozen tips within 48 hours. Crime Stoppers is a great vehicle for sending in crime tips anonymously. So far this year, more than 17,000 tips and 1000+ arrests have been made because of the success of this program. We ask the public if they know the identity of the remaining suspects, to please call 404-577-TIPS. They can remain anonymous and receive up to $2,000 upon arrest and indictment.

We will not tolerate this brazen behavior in our city. The Atlanta Police Department will continue to work until the criminals are apprehended. While there have been some high-profile crimes in Zone 2 recently, violent crime is actually down. As always, we continue to look daily at crime patterns and trends and deploy our resources accordingly.

Our mission is to create a safer Atlanta by reducing crime, ensuring the safety of our citizens and building trust in partnership with our communities.
