City of Atlanta Wins $30 Million HUD Choice Neighborhood Grant

Mayor Kasim Reed and Secretary Julián Castro announced today that the City of Atlanta has been selected to receive $30 million through the 2014-2015 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant. The 26th annual Young Council of REALTORS® Charity Golf Tournament was held September 18th at Chastain Park Golf Course. Over 100 REALTORS® and guests came together to raise $22,000 dollars for the Carter Martin Cancer Research Fund. Over the past ten years the Young Council has raised over $250,000 dollars through the annual tournament, to benefit the fund and children’s cancer research.

Congressman Doug Collins sent a letter to the President of the Tennessee Valley Authority on the yearly draw down of the water in Lake Blue Ridge, located in Fannin County. Current TVA Operating Guidelines call for the lake to be below full volume for much of the year, including during part of the summer, which drastically shortens the season for boating and other recreational activities. Mayor Kasim Reed announced today that the Atlanta City Council has voted 13 to 1 to approve a measure to put a special local option sales tax (TSPLOST) referendum on the November ballot to fund transportation related infrastructure projects throughout the City of Atlanta. The ballot referendum will ask Atlanta voters to authorize a 0.4 percent sales tax increase for a five-year period. The TSPLOST is projected to generate approximately $260 million, which will be leveraged to generate additional matching funds.
