Westmoreland Votes to Terminate Expensive, Ineffective Federal Housing Program

Washington, DC - March 11, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- Today, Congressman Westmoreland joined a bipartisan group of his colleagues in the House to terminate the Federal Housing Authority Refinance Program Termination Act. In March 2010, without an act of Congress, the Obama administration announced the creation of the FHA Refinance Program to refinance underwater loans into the FHA using $8 billion in TARP funds. As of February 3, 2011 – almost one year into the program – only $50 million had been disbursed and only 44 loans have been refinanced.

Westmoreland Votes to Cut $1 Billion in Unnecessary Spending

Washington, DC - March 11, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- Today the House of Representatives passed H.R. 836, the Emergency Homeowner Relief Program Termination Act. Congressman Westmoreland joined a bipartisan group of his colleagues to support this legislation. The bill terminates the Housing and Urban Development’s Emergency Homeowner Relief Program. The program was initially created in 1975, however not funded until last July with the passage of the Dodd-Frank Act.

House Republicans Act to End Costly, Ineffective Housing Programs

The FHA Refinance Program Termination Act (H.R. 830) and the Emergency Mortgage Relief Program Termination Act (H.R. 836) would save taxpayer dollars while rolling back irresponsible government intervention in the housing market.

House Passes National Flood Insurance Program

Washington, DC - July 16, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- The US House passed H.R. 5114, the Flood Insurance Reform Priorities Act of 2010. H.R. 5114 will reauthorize and improve the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which is the primary source of reliable, affordable flood insurance coverage for millions of American homes and businesses. The bill includes an amendment by Congressman Scott to allow NFIP premiums to be paid in installments.

HOUSE VOTES TO EXTEND FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM

Mayor Kasim Reed announced today that the Atlanta City Council has voted 13 to 1 to approve a measure to put a special local option sales tax (TSPLOST) referendum on the November ballot to fund transportation related infrastructure projects throughout the City of Atlanta. The ballot referendum will ask Atlanta voters to authorize a 0.4 percent sales tax increase for a five-year period. The TSPLOST is projected to generate approximately $260 million, which will be leveraged to generate additional matching funds.
