Barrow Announces $75,952,358 in Recovery Act Funds to Create Jobs, Provide Affordable Housing

Washington, D.C. - July 10, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) announced today that the Georgia Housing Authority will receive $76 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) to increase the development of affordable housing units. These funds will support the construction, acquisition, and rehabilitation of housing for low-income families and individuals throughout the state. It will also create and preserve construction and non-construction jobs. The Recovery Act was passed by Congress with Congressman Barrow's support and signed into law by President Obama earlier this year.

Mayor Kasim Reed announced today that the Atlanta City Council has voted 13 to 1 to approve a measure to put a special local option sales tax (TSPLOST) referendum on the November ballot to fund transportation related infrastructure projects throughout the City of Atlanta. The ballot referendum will ask Atlanta voters to authorize a 0.4 percent sales tax increase for a five-year period.
