(ATLANTA – 8/16/2016) — (RealEstateRama) — The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) will release a grant application on September 1, 2016, for approximately $3 million in new Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) grants.

The Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) uses a portion of  DCA’s HOME funds to assist local governments, nonprofit organizations, and public housing authorities to address the needs of affordable housing development in their communities.

Eligible Applicants:

Eligible CHIP applicants include local governments that have not been designated by HUD as a Participating Jurisdiction (PJ) for the HOME program, organizations designated with a 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) status, or Local Public Housing Authorities which meet CHIP experience threshold requirements.

Eligible Activities:

Homeowner Rehabilitation: CHIP funds may be used to assist existing low income homeowners by providing rehabilitation assistance to their homes.

New Construction: CHIP funds may be used to build single family homes for low-to-moderate income homebuyers.

The application and instructions will be available on the DCA website at www.dca.ga.gov on September 1, 2016.  The application deadline is December 1, 2016.
