National security, energy, and budget among topics at Woodall Town Hall

WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 23, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — After a flurry of activity on Capitol Hill for the first 6 weeks of America’s new Congress, Members have returned home to hear from constituents. Having already conducted a series of telephone town hall meetings this year, U.S. Representative Rob Woodall hosted an in-person town hall meeting on Thursday evening. Offering an overview of what has happened in Washington recently, Woodall also took questions from the audience on issues including the federal budget and national security.

“A lot has happened in Washington during the first month and a half of the new American Congress, and it’s great to hear from the folks in the community on how they view our progress to this point,” said Rep. Woodall. “I believe we have a fantastic opportunity to move the country towards more efficient, effective, and accountable government, and I know that having open conversations with the men and women here at home is essential for that success.”

In recent weeks, the House has passed multiple pieces of legislation ranging from national security to regulatory reform, but also successfully partnered with the Senate to authorize construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Previously passed by the House on numerous occasions, the measure was approved by the Senate, and is now headed to the President for consideration. As he had done in the past, Woodall supported the bill, while managing the rule for debate on the House floor.

“As just one example of what we can accomplish with a functioning process in Washington, the Keystone XL pipeline legislation is a commonsense bill that is good for America,” Woodall continued. “Americans deserve representation that searches for solutions and takes action; and the estimated 40,000 jobs, increased energy independence, and lower daily living costs for families across the country are good results. The President will have a chance with this bipartisan bill, and many others in the near future, to hear what the American people are saying, and it’s my hope that he’ll choose to partner with us.”

Woodall represents the Seventh Congressional District of Georgia, which includes the majority of Gwinnett and Forsyth counties, and currently serves as Chairman of the Rules Subcommittee on Legislative and Budget Process
