DCA awards $20.5 million in Housing Tax Credits

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) announced today it will award $20.5 million federal housing tax credits to construct or rehabilitate 25 affordable rental housing properties located throughout the state. The developments include affordable housing for working families, housing for Georgia seniors and housing for persons with disabilities, and were selected from 79 applications in the annual competition

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Administration for Children and Families has announced over $3 billion in funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHEAP aids low-income families and individuals with bill payments, energy crises, energy efficiency improvements, and energy-related home repairs.

DCA to co-sponsor Atlanta Affordable Housing Preservation Challenge

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) is co-sponsoring a competition to foster creative solutions to today’s housing needs.  Organized in conjunction with Georgia ACT and Enterprise Community Partners, and sponsored by the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, the Preservation Challenge is an idea competition to generate innovative, implementable proposals that will help preserve affordable housing in the Atlanta region and throughout Georgia’s urban centers

Hurricane Matthew recovery update

Gov. Nathan Deal and members of the Emergency Operations Command today outlined Hurricane Matthew's impact on Georgia's coastal areas and the state's recovery response efforts. "Hurricane Matthew hit Georgia as a Category 2 hurricane last night, swamping coastal areas with high winds, heavy rain and flooding," Deal said.

CONGRESSMAN SANFORD BISHOP ANNOUNCES COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANTS

Congressman Sanford D. Mayor Kasim Reed Advances $380 Million in New Transportation Infrastructure Spending...

Mayor Kasim Reed announced today that the Atlanta City Council has voted 13 to 1 to approve a measure to put a special local option sales tax (TSPLOST) referendum on the November ballot to fund transportation related infrastructure projects throughout the City of Atlanta. The ballot referendum will ask Atlanta voters to authorize a 0.4 percent sales tax increase for a five-year period. The TSPLOST is projected to generate approximately $260 million, which will be leveraged to generate additional matching funds.
